Tigers At Sunset by Simon Cattlin “Tigers At Sunset” represents the June 1967 far-east deployment of 74 Squadron’s Lightning F6’s to Tengah, Singapore. The F6 is a beautiful aircraft and the two fast climbing jets make a stunning image when set in the deep reds and oranges of an cloudy Asian sunset. The tiger crest on the black tailplane sits well with the Lightning’s clean lines and contrasts strongly against the silver fuselage. During 1969 the Squadron flew 4 of the Lightnings on a record breaking 2000 mile non-stop flight (with VC10 tanker support) from Tengah to Darwin in Northern Australia. |
